Not far along the road, a couple of Highland cattle were giving The Eye to a guy who was repairing their fence. I loved their long and shaggy pelts.

Here's the view from our lunch spot - Rosario Beach near Deception Pass. It's a great place for scuba diving, but we didn't see any divers today.

This carved statue faces the beach. The back of the statue is also carved.

Out in the bay was a rock full of cormorants.

Here's a distant shot of Deception Pass bridge. It's much more beautiful on a sunny day.

Now we are on Whidbey Island, one of the 3 longest and 4 largest islands in the Continental United States. This is the Admiralty Head Lighthouse, in Fort Casey.

Here are the remains of the bunkers. Fort Casey was built to guard against the threat of attack during the 1904 Russo-Japanese War.

Several of the Disappearing Guns remain. They were built on carriages which could be raised and lowered so that the guns were exposed only long enough to fire at the enemy.

A White-Crowned Sparrow sang loudly atop a warning sign at the edge of the bluff.

The surrounding fields were covered with tiny little daisies. This one is about 1/2 inch in diameter.

And with that, we headed south to Clinton, to take the ferry across to Mukilteo. Gosh it was nice to get out once again!
