Taking the Low Roads

Nearby, a Song Sparrow filled the air with sound.
 
 
 

Great Blue Herons were everywhere, mostly up in the air!

 
 
Two immature Bald Eagles sat in a tree right beside the road, watching a man mow his grass. They hardly moved, until we took one step too many in our attempts to photograph them.
 
 
 
Here's the refinery oil pipeline, with a gaggle of herons playing beneath it.
 
 
 
I watched them for a while, darting in between the trestles.
 
 
 
Blooming Oregon Grape plants made bright splashes of color here and there.
 
 
 
As for the Tulip Festival, well, as their website said, 'some' fields are tinged with color, and that was a good description. This was one of the few fields which showed any color at all.
 
 
 
Across the road were some red and yellow tulips, bright against the backdrop of the snow-spotted hills.
 
 
 

Tim found this vantage point near Fir Island, on the way home. What a view of Mt Baker!

So home we went. What did we like best about the day? We agreed that it was being out in the sunshine again. You can't beat that!
