Looks like we made it! In one direction, we look up at rocky cliffs.

And in the opposite direction is this view of Surprise Creek Valley.

The light area in the mountain behind Tim is the Highway through Steven's Pass

Here I am in front of Surprise Creek Valley.

Looking down *shiver* I can see the 'new' Cascade Tunnel finished in 1929 after the nearby Wellington Avalanche killed 100 people.

As we left for the downward climb I was thrilled to spot this Calypso or Fairy Slipper growing out of a pile of dead leaves.

We counted 29 switchbacks - a vertical gain of 700 feet in less than a mile.

We stopped from time to time, to admire the wildlife.

We ate lunch near the Caboose which apparently doubles as an Interpretive Center. It was locked yesterday.

On the way out, near Martin Creek, Tim spotted some Red Columbines.

Home we went after a strenuous day.
