A Black Oystercatcher paraded up and down the rocks at the base of the big lookout.
Sea lions (?) bask on a rock near Tatoosh Island. Thanks to the new lens for my camera, I was able to get a pretty good picture of them though they were far, far away.
Here's our lunch spot of the day, a picnic table overlooking the gorge and one of the many caves.
As the tide was going out, it revealed a line of starfish in varying stages of umm life (or not life) along the edges of the rocks.
Now it's Torture Time, climbing uphill all the way back. Tim takes a last look at the scenery and off we go. Our packs and tripods feel as if they weigh a ton. We keep telling ourselves it's good for us, and before we know it, we are back at the car. |
|
We took a short jaunt down the coast for a peek at the beaches. Here's Hobuck Beach and I was quite surprised at the lack of people. |
|
To the south we could see small sea stacks and islands. At this time we decided to head towards home as it was a fairly long ride to the Ferry. |
|
Tim patiently watched me tipping rocks at Shipwreck Point near Clallam Bay. Ooooh, I love doing that - looking for crabs.
I found tons but I think they had been practicing their quick getaways. By the time I tipped the rock and focussed the camera, they were gone, gone gone. Here's one who stopped to snarl at me. |
|
Most of the rocks were literally covered with these tiny little molluscs. They were very pretty.
The rest of our journey was uneventful and we lucked out at the Ferry, virtually driving straight on to the 7:15 pm trip on the Puyallup. We arrived back at Edmonds around quarter to eight. Later that evening, I was watching the news and learned this: "A man was arrested after a bomb threat shut down a state ferry route for about three hours Saturday night, the State Patrol said. The man was suspected of phoning in the hoax bomb threat that halted service on the Edmonds-Kingston run from about 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., officials said." [link] Whew, weren't we lucky? That could have been a really, really, REALLY long day! :) |
