I took
a quick trip to Layser Cave on the way home. "Layser Cave, believed to have been in use by Indians 7,000 years ago was discovered in 1982 by Tim Layser, a Forest Service worker. Stone tools and animal bones were found on the floor of the cave and experts were able to piece together a history. Archeologists believe that the cave was abruptly abandoned about 3,500 years ago. The reason is a mystery, though it may have been caused by an eruption of Mount St. Helens." Seattle PI |
