In
September, JoJo the Sumatran Tiger gave birth to a couple of cubs.
They've been in seclusion until last weekend when the public was
invited to view them.
I was so excited to see these little guys, but my heart sank when
I entered the viewing area and saw not only thick glass (which
is the kiss of death for my flash) but also BARS! Thick bars!
Fooey! And to think my main concern had been for crowds. Ah well.
Here are four of the least objectionable of my gazillion photos.
For better pictures, you can check the slideshow on the Zoo's
Tiger Page or the Seattle
P.I article.
There are also a few pics of other animals. ;-)

Besides
the glass and the bars, this pair of rascals barely sat still
for more than a second. They were bundles of energy, running,
jumping, climbing and wrasslin' :D

The
cubs are males named Lanka (meaning "rare") and Maris
("sweet"). It's reported that Lanka is the more energetic
cub, but I couldn't see much difference in their energy levels.

They'll
remain in the heated indoor area until the Spring. The outdoor
area, besides being very chilly and damp, has a steep ledge which
could prove to be a danger for this rambunctious pair.

Think
he's resting? Nahhhh - he's eating.

My
little pal Melati was huddled up under burlap today - it was damp
and chilly. She still ran to the window when she saw me. :D

|
I
think this is my favorite picture of the day - a shot of a very
wistful lion-tailed macaque no doubt yearning for the warmth of
his native southwestern India..

Things
are not always what they seem ;-) Several gorillas were huddled
together in pairs under the heat lamps. The more this baby tried
to squirm away, the tighter the mother held him :)
