The Orangutans

Next stop was the indoor area of the Orangutan exhibit. I already knew I would have to deal with ferocious reflections here and might well get no pictures at all. However I love these animals so off I went. Their area was decorated with paper banners and food.

Both paper and food were enjoyed. A keeper said that quite often they will pick up a piece of paper and pretend to be reading it. At least I think they're pretending! They love to eat.

Oooooooh, broccoli! What a treat. <-slightly sarcastic comment

Melati has grabbed a big Durian, sometimes called the King of Fruits!

'Some people regard the durian as having a pleasantly sweet fragrance; others find the aroma overpowering and revolting. The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as rotten onions, turpentine, and raw sewage...[the taste of] its flesh [has been described] as "a rich custard highly flavoured with almonds". Smell? What smell? This is deeeee-licious!

Me, kale and popcorn...does it get any better than this?

My last stop will be the wolves. On the way, I smiled at this.
A Special Valentine

In case they forget us, dear Hubert, I made a Valentine just for you.
Awwwwww, thanks sweetie. You're the best.

The Wolves

A huge crowd was watching four wolves who were pacing around as if they knew something was going to happen. Back and forth, back and forth they went.

Hooray! Two keepers brought out giant boxes and placed them near the viewing stations. Oh boy - I have a ringside seat - errrr stance.

The Advance Guard sauntered past the box near me, giving it a nonchalant once-over.

Another young lady got very close to it - hmmmm, what could be inside?

Bravely, a third wolf gave it a sniff. And that was it. Off they went to walk and run and play, totally ignoring both boxes containing their treats.

One even settled down for a nap. The crowd was very disappointed and so was I. I never found out what was in those boxes because after 15 minutes I had to leave. My visit was over.

As always, I enjoyed it. Zelda (my evil twin) insists on full disclosure so I must add that we were both frozen solid and that Zelda wanted to punch some of the rude people in the crowd. But I managed to stop her.
