Tim had a holiday from work so we headed via ferry and car to Westport on the Pacific Ocean. We try try to go several times a year, not only to treat ourselves to superb fish and chips at Bennett's Fish Shack on the waterfront but also to see the ocean and the wildlife.

As we left on the ferry, the weather was foggy and wet. Slowly the conditions improved to high clouds and occasionally blue skies.

Here we are at Westport Harbor, working up our appetites for lunch.

Tim strides down the ramp to the boat docks where the fishermen and crabbers are busy.

What a surprise! Just beneath the ramp are several Marbled Godwits.

They're larger shorebirds. I watch them looking for food.

They're so graceful, colorful and quick!

An immature White-winged Scoter pops up beside the dock, just where I am standing.

Up above soars a beautiful Brown Pelican. I am so happy to see it.

A crabber shows me some of his catch, just before he tosses it back. 'Too small.' he says. They are Dungeness Crabs and the lower one is actually hosting barnacles.

The Brown Pelicans continue to stream past.

It's an odd-shaped bird which flies quite elegantly.

Meanwhile, below me a couple of gulls begin fighting over a piece of fish.

Whoa Nellie - things are getting a little heated.

Look at all those wings. Someone else has joined the fray.

And nobody has a clue where the fish went.

Mr Pelican thinks it's pretty funny.
