I was in the African Savannah outlook, leaning over the rail to take this picture when my telephoto lens hood detached itself from the camera and dove 30 feet into the water below. Luckily a Guest Services Rep and an animal keeper managed to locate and rescue it on Sunday. |
Here's my first mystery gorilla. Not only did she spend time posing on a log, but also she shinnied up a tree and sat posing up there too. The coloring was wrong for Izumma, and the face was wrong for Izumma's sister. |
And this was not VIP, the leader of the pack I usually watch. This male was quite shy and stayed near the back of the exhibit. |
Hand-raised
by humans, Leonel has been described as 'somewhat of a socially-challenged
individual'. He doesn't often make eye contact. In this picture he is
chewing on a black rubber toy which had treats inside. There's a good
description of all three gorilla packs [here]. VIP's pack (with Izumma and her sister Calaya and others) is currently not on display because VIP is recovering from delicate sinus surgery. |
As I walked past the Red-ruffed Lemur exhibit, one of them said hello. |
Surprisingly a Colobus Monkey was sitting on the ground enjoying the sun. |
Both young giraffes are tall enough to reach the lower branches at last. |
They also whisper secrets about the Zebras. |
Good-bye. See you soon |
