A Gray Jay called all his buddies over, hoping for a handout.

The Gray Jays were not at all shy.

They even ate grapes from Tim the Birdwhisperer.

Back we go, past the meadows heading to Rainy Lake Trail.

The trail is a paved,mile-long walk with only 70 feet of elevation gain. *yay* It leads to Rainy Lake, a cirque lake. 'A cirque is a steep-walled semicircular basin in a mountain which may contain a lake.'

The last time we visited was on June 7, 2003

Here and there were interesting facts. I loved this one - I'd never heard of a (non-human) Snow Creep before.

There were lots of bent trees in the area to verify the Snow Creep information.

Before we knew it we were at Rainy Lake. The trail ended here.

Another hiker took our photo, just like last time.

And now, my personal highlight of the hike and possibly the day - an American Marten.

He was 20 or so feet up in a tree and watched us very closely.

I've never seen one before - I could have watched him for ages.

Eventually back we went, through the mountains, past the lakes and past the remnants of the fires.

Y'all come back now, ya hear?

On the way home we stopped in Mukilteo for a seafood dinner.
It was a terrific day.
