There were lots
of seals around day. They kept well out of our way.
They like it best
when the crabbers with their cages of raw chicken bait are on the dock.
A
number of graceful Western Grebes enjoyed the sunshine. |
More
tiny flying clouds of shorebirds - these might be Least Sandpipers. |
After
a brisk walk we were ready for lunch. Fish and Chips - excellent as
usual.
|
A Columbian White-tailed
deer pauses to say hello.
His
relatives are too busy chowing down to bother with us. |
The
roar of the surf and the crashing waves are far from impressive today.
Oh well, win some, lose some. |
As
I left, there was a tiny little attempt at a wave. Thanks - I appreciated
it.. |
'Come
back soon' urges the high school football team's mascot. |
The
twin towers of the Satsop
Nuclear Power Plant loom over lush farmland near Elma and serve
as memorials - they've never been used. |
|
We
retrace our steps along the 2-lane highway - so much nicer than the freeway. |
As always,
we smile at the County
Asessor Pig. It's been there in Shelton for ages, protesting 'dramatic
increases in assessed property values in Mason County, causing property
taxes to increase as much as 100 percent.' |
By the
time we got to Allyn, a beautifully quirky little place, we were in Friday
rush hour traffic on a 2 lane highway with nowhere to pull over and take
pictures. So I snapped these wonderful chaps on the run. Loved them. |
We
had to wait for a ferry on the return trip. This time we rode on the
Puyallup.
|
On
the way across I caught a glimpse of Mount Rainier towering over the
Seattle landscape.
|
And in the other
direction, Mount Baker caught the last rays of the setting sun.
What a day,
what a day. Great!
