Canada Geese lined the grassy areas of Golden Gardens Park, in their usual omnipresent way. Gulls of several kinds wheeled and called overhead. As novice birders, we had some fun trying to identify what we were looking at so we stand corrected if we've guessed wrong.

Everything about this bird said "I'm a Mallard", except the color of the head, which was dark purplish-blue instead of the usual green...perhaps they cross-breed ?

This bird had an amazing shrill, short, whistling call note - we think it is an American Wigeon.

An American Coot paddled back and forth in the pond.
