Now we're off to Harts Pass - 18+ miles along a road like this...not too bad! Well, I spoke to soon. About ten miles along the trail an ominous sign warned us "Rough Road for 1/4 mile". They sure weren't kidding, as the small two-lane track became even narrower, winding along with sheer rock on one side and nothing but air on the other. The dropoff was horrendous and I am afraid I whimpered and whined whilst clutching the "Jesus Bar" in the car. The quarter-mile felt like ten, and all I could think about was "Oh nooooooo, we are gonna have to come BACK this way too!!!!" It was a very scary ride indeed.
