Here's a sample of one of the seven switchbacks we encountered as we ascended/descended 700 feet in less than a mile. You can't tell from this picture, but the slopes were very steep. Not surprisingly, once again we found that coming down was harder on the legs than climbing up. In some spots, the narrow pathway was almost totally obscured by ferns, making invisible the rocks and roots below.
