We met on the Internet and it was truly a long-distance relationship
- Toronto to Seattle.
Air Canada was very pleased with this ;-) We were not. Eventually
we decided to wed.
We thought of being married by a JP, or even in the garden here
where we lived. Also we thought of Ruby Beach, but the logistics
proved too much.

When
we mentioned it to our friends Bob and Shannon, as we were asking
them to stand up for us, they kindly offered us the use of their
house and garden. So on a sunny and warm July 11, 1999, in what
we figured was the shortest ceremony on record, we were married
by Judge McIntosh in Burlington, WA. A number of friends
helped us to celebrate.
A Hawaiian theme had evolved from a suggestion by Tim's sister,
Mary Jane. Our planned wedding attire of jeans and TShirts was replaced
by colorful cottons. The guests wore leis, courtesy of Archie McPhee's
and even the wedding cake was decorated with hula dancers. A great
barbecue and party followed.
We used two pieces of music which were meaningful to us. We walked
towards the Judge to Bonnie Raitt's song "Fearless Love"
Skippin' stones Across the great unknown Safe at water's edge.
Afterwards, we strolled back to the tune of Pat Metheny playing
Last Train Home - our theme song.
Later, we set off for a three-day honeymoon on the west side of
the Olympic Peninsula. From our headquarters in Forks, we made trips
to some of our favorite places...Neah Bay and Cape Flattery, Rialto
and Ruby Beaches, the Hoh Rain Forest and, on the way home, Olympic
Hot Springs Road and Hurricane Ridge.
