On
a blustery, wet Saturday Tim and I headed
north for Heather Meadows and Artist Point,
hoping to see the annual color display there.
With snow flurries in next week’s weather
forecast for that area it might be our last
chance as Artist Point closes when the snow
flies.
As we began the climb from Austin Pass to Artist
Point I noticed some colors. Hooray!
The higher we went the more colors there were.
Quickly we parked and began the walk to the ridge
trail.
How beautiful it was. The top of Mount Baker
was barely visible, but the colors were lovely.
Tim's taking a picture of Mount Shuksan in the other
direction.
We were surrounded by shades of red, yellow, orange
and gold...and green of course.
Tim leads the way up the next hill.
Lovely!
What
a blaze of color.
Here
I am being battered by the wind and rain, across
from my favorite mountain - Mount Shuksan.
Ptarmigan Ridge trail runs just below the top of
this ridge. We hiked it once upon a time and
long ago. :D
It's
time to head back for lunch.
This
is our usual lunch spot but it's cold and windy today
so we decide to eat in the car and admire the scenery.
What
a nice picnic spot this would have been.
We
make a stop at Picture Lake on the way down. The
colors are fabulous there too.
So
pretty.
Huckleberries
are blooming near the trail.
Mount
Shuksan provides a backdrop for the colors.
With
one last look we decide to head for home. We
likely won't be back until late next summer.
