On very bright and sunny day we bounced along the Cascade River Road, a 23 mile long road in the North Cascades National Park, ending at the Cascade Pass Trailhead, 3220 feet above sea level.  The road is paved for the first 10 miles and then Whoa Nellie - hang on to your hats! There are steep and narrow sections and on this one-lane road the sight of an oncoming car can be scary.  Is getting to the end worth it?  You betcha!

After an uneventful trip to the top we find...snow!

The mountains dwarf us.  The red arrow points to our car, just for scale.

It looks as if the team of road-openers has been very busy.

Mountains sure know how to make a person feel small.

Here's the top of the pass.  Once we saw a marmot in the foreground.  Not today.

The hills remind me of Austria and Switzerland.

Here are 3 people determined to have some fun on the glacier.  On our way home, a car driver racing along trying to find cell phone service in order to call for help  told us that there was an injured person on the glacier.  Perhaps it was one of these three.

At the beginning of the trail up the mountain there are lots of wood violets.

Oooops - looks like that's the end of the trail for us says Tim.
