On a picture-perfect Saturday morning we set off very early for one of our favorite places - Heather Meadows and Artist Point at the end of the Mount Baker Highway.  It was our first visit of the year and we hoped that most of the snow had melted.

I always get a big grin on my face whenever we come to this sign.

Up, up up we climb as we near our destination - the trail at Artist Point.

My lovely Mount Shuksan peers at us from a distance.

At the other end of the parking lot is Magnificent Mount Baker.

People are climbing Table Mountain already.

The scenery near the trail along the ridge is stunning.

Here and there the path widens revealing remnants of snow.

There's heather blooming all over the place.

As we head towards Mt Shuksan we hear a familiar sound.

What a surprise - it's a Killdeer, far away from his usual beaches and wetlands.
