Rainy November is upon us. This also means our lovely mountain roads are covered in snow so it's time for some lowland exploring. We took advantage of a non-wet Saturday to have a look at the Narbeck Wetland Sanctuary about 30 miles north of us. Tim spotted an article about it in this week's ( Seattle Times ).

'Narbeck' is actually a typo, as the original settler bore the name of 'Harbeck'.

What's this strange structure looming at the beginning of the trail?

Why, it's an Interpretive Center, with lots of windows overlooking a large pond.

The trail was a combination of beautiful boardwalks like this one and well-maintained paths.

Here's Tim on one of the non-boardwalk sections, among the Larch leaves.

How pretty is this? The leaves positively glowed.

Ooooh, what's that I hear?

It's ducks and geese, lots of them, on a large pond.

A Hooded Merganser swims nonchalantly along beside a Canada Goose.

A little Ring Necked Duck swam back and forth by himself in the corner.

Several Mergansers cruised around, occasionally showing off with a huge splash of water..
