Re-entering
Route 2 after our detour we were surprised to find ourselves heading
up to the top of Stevens Pass. There is a huge ski area, and it
was very busy today. |
|
At the top
of the pass we turned around and headed back towards Index, looking
for a good lunch spot since our destination, Deception Falls Park,
was closed for the season and snowed in, unfortunately. |
|
We sat in the
shadow of the beautiful Mount Index and ate our sandwiches. What
a life! |
|
On the way
home, I took pictures of some chainsaw carvings. That's a very popular
hobby here. A big bear waved to passers-by. |
|
Next to him,
a pot-bellied cowboy encouraged tourists to come on in and see the
carving. Nobody was working today though. |
|
I loved this
moose - he had such a saucy face. I was a bit tempted to see how
much he cost :) |
|
How
strange to see a giraffe all the way out here amongst the bears. |
|
Some of the
carvings were very strange, such as this one of a fish swallowing
a man. It would most definitely be a conversation piece, wherever
you put it. |
|
A tree full
of bears waved goodbye to us as we headed for home.
The trip was
a most welcome break, and a lovely day.
