Tim
and I went out for a picnic today. We headed north and east,
along Highway 2 towards the town of Index. That's a beautiful
route for a short trip and there are always interesting sights
to see.
Our first stop
was the tiny town of Sultan.
A lovely mural on the side of a Chiropractic Clinic caught my eye.
Near there
was the Sultan Park, with a carved statue of Chief Tseulto, otherwise
known as Sultan John.
Tim and I did
a double-take at this sign on a local cafe, and then burst into
gales of laughter. We thought it was very appropriate.
Our next stop
was a small park beside the Skykomish River and a beautiful view
of Mount Index on the left, and Mount Persis on the right.
The view in
the other direction wasn't too shabby either.
Back on Route
2 we stopped to take a picture of Baring Mountain in the distance.
Its craggy peaks are unmistakeable.
Now
Tim headed off the beaten track, onto the Old Cascade Highway. We'd
wanted to go towards the Iron Goat Trail, but the snow got much
deeper so we stayed on this road.
The river flowing
beside the road was a mixture of running water, ice and snow. It
was so pretty.
Beside the
road, great walls of icicles dripped and gurgled.
