Meals were prepared for the many laborers as well as the benefactor and it was a full-time job for more than one cook. An outdoor oven was used as well as an indoor oven.

This is actually a non-historic storage shed, but it is in keeping with the rest of the buildings.

Dr Tolmie was the Factor of the fort and his house was built "Yankee style". He convinced the Hudson's Bay Company to replace his original residence with this larger building by exchanging some of the fort's cattle for some locally milled lumber.

This house has a most glorious porch on it.

The living room area was pretty and cosy.

I loved the child's chair by the fireplace. :)

Across the hall was the dining room, set up for a meal.

I think this is either the master bedroom or a nap room for the lady of the house when she is weary. It adjoined the living room.

And last but not least, I think this might have been the nanny's quarters, judging from the laundry rack and the tiny chair and table in front of the fireplace.

I've always enjoyed seeing how others live(d), and Fort Nisqually was no exception..
