Bridge
Facts: Height: 182 feet Width: 22 feet Canoe Pass: one 350-ft arch Deception Pass: two 175-ft cantilever spans, one 200-ft suspended
span.
A few weeks ago a truck driver skidded and ended up half on and
half off the bridge - yikes!
The view to
the east: "In the early years of the 20th Century, travelers
used an unscheduled ferry to cross from Fidalgo Island to Whidbey.
To call the ferry, they banged a saw with a mallet and then sat
back to wait."
The
view to the west looks towards the Strait of Juan De Fuca across
the Sound. There are some lovely inlets and caves which may be visited
by kayak.
Here's a close-up
of one of the larger caves along the shoreline.
Next
stop on our way to the ferry was Whidbey Island State Park. We had
a good workout climbing down to the beach and back up again.
I thought this freshly cut log was quite a remarkable color.
And
I'm always a sucker for a fun-gi. ;-)
So ended our outing and it didn't start raining until we were on
the ferry.
