He left school and went straight to work in an iron and steel making company called Guest, Keene and Nettlefolds. As part of his training in the industry, he spent time in Germany, studying iron and steel-making. He was there during the rise of Hitler, and told stories of watching the rallies in the streets. He remarked upon how frightening it was. He also wrote a book about iron and steel-making. |
