Mount
Vernon, Deception Pass and Whidbey Island
Saturday, March 6th, 2004
Mount Vernon, north of Seattle is known as the City Of The Soft
Petal. April brings the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and
it's truly a sight to behold. In March can be seen "a host
of golden daffodils" - fields and fields of them stretching
as far as the eye can see. We thought we'd make that a stop on
our journey today. Here are a few pictures from our road trip.

Near
Mount Vernon we spied this sign - we thought it was quite a marvellous
combination. |
|
And
sure enough, in several fields nearby were herds of alpacas.
Usually alpacas are pretty skittish, but after a cursory glance
at us, these guys just kept on eating. |
|
There
were a number of old barns on our route today, and Tim kindly stopped
so I could snap a few. |
|
I
liked the shape and the color of this one. |
|
Now
it was time to check out the daffodil fields. On our way, we passed
this umm sign(?) on top of a garage. |
|
And
here they are. You can see these fields from miles away, glowing
yellow whether it's sunny or cloudy. They're a remarkable sight
indeed. |
