Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday

We left Seaside looking for a place to get coffee. In Gearhart, just up the coast, we found a lovely little Bakery and enjoyed our coffee and brekkies there,

We were watched by the world's cuddliest, friendliest cat, who belonged to the Bakery. Or perhaps that should be the Cat to whom the Bakery belonged. :)

As we approached the Astoria Bridge, we noticed a lot of Great Blue Herons along the shore, including this frowzy guy with BedHead.

Here's the bridge to Washington. It's over four miles long.

At one of our stops for gas, I watched a man unloading his chainsaw carvings on the roadside.

Sadly, the Chainsaw Carving Festival at Westport has been cancelled for this year. Drat!

It was very quiet at Westport, so we ambled around the harbor a bit, and walked along the breakwater.

Tim photographed a seal in the water near the floating docks.

We were delighted to see a number of Pelicans darting and swooping around. They are beautiful birds.

A few brave souls were surfing. The air was very chilly and the breeze was stiff.

We stopped at Lake Sylvia State Park for lunch. It is a pretty little place and there were a few campers trying to get up the nerve to jump into the cold water.

On display here was a memorial to Logging days, a 3 ft 8 inch diameter ball carved of Sitka spruce. Loggers would try to stand on it and roll it around the lake, in a contest to see who could stay on the longest. Eventually it got waterlogged and sank.

We decided to take the ferry from Bremerton home, rather than battle the I-5 in rush hour.

Here we are approaching the Bremerton Ship Yards.

Half way home, we passed another ferry just like ours.
Almost an hour after we set out, we saw the skyline of Seattle come into view. We'd hoped to see Mount Rainier too, but it was not visible today.

Behind the small Elliot Bay water taxi loom two huge cruise ships. Seattle is a port for the Alaska trips.

The cruise ships are berthed amongst the cargo ships - not a very pretty place to stop.

And finally, a traffic jam of another kind, on First Avenue in Seattle. We were stuck behind a horse and cart!

Heh, I kept thinking of Kramer.

So that's it. Once we recover from this one, we can start thinking about next year.

That's all. Thanks for looking :)
