On Tuesday
morning we set off early, driving southeast towards Oregon. We
paused at a lookout to take some pictures, just after we entered
Oregon. The view was astounding.
|
|
Green
and gold, as far as the eye could see. The road was winding up into
the Blue Mountains. |
|
We headed
east at the town of La Grande to take a drive along the Hells
Canyon Scenic Byway.
Boy, was it
hot! How hot was it? It was as hot as h*ll! :)
|
|
The scenery
continued to change rapidly. Trees appeared and disappeared. Hills
were yellow, then green then yellow. And the road kept winding.
|
|
I
burst into laughter as we drove past one of the omnipresent Espresso
stands in one small town. It gave new meaning to the words Drive
In. |
|
In
the distance we could see the Wallowa Mountain chain, contrasting
with the flat, flat land. |
|
Amazing
how some folks live. :) On the roof of the motorhome were chairs
and tables, and it was obviously in use. |
|
As
we drove through the town of Joseph, we noticed beautifully-made
statues lining the main street. |
|
It was fun
looking to see what was on the next corner.
|
|
They
were lovely, as was the town. I think it's a popular skiing location. |
|
Now
we're getting closer to the canyon. Remnants of a forest fire were
visible on the hillsides. |
