It's a slab of seals, sunning themselves on a tiny rock next to Tatoosh Island.

And what's Tim found?

Three tiny baby Glaucous-winged gulls with a parent.

On past trips we've seen a lot of bird life here - tons of gulls, puffins, murres and oystercatchers. This year there was barely a bird in sight - some gulls, a few cormorants and several of these bright-legged Pigeon guillemots.

It was hard to tear ourselves away from Cape Flattery.

But back up the wooden hill we went. See ya next time.

Driving south a bit we found ourselves at Hobuck Beach.

It was lunchtime, and another scenic stop.

Tim loves waterfalls, and we were both surprised that we'd never been to Marymere Falls. We must have driven past the sign a dozen times at least over the years. This afternoon we would remedy that.

Near the beginning of the trail we traveled through a culvert under the highway.

We found ourselves in deep, dark, beautiful woods.

There were bridges to cross.

And ferns to measure. (Taller than Tim!).

A peek at what was to come.

And a 90-foot cataract cascading down the cliff. It was quite a sight after a grueling climb on the last 1/8 mile. There was no way one of us could climb down beside it for scale, unfortunately.
