On Saturday,
July 9, 2005, Tim and I set out to find the ghost town of
Galena, near the town of Index, Washington. We located the
general area quickly and found ourselves bouncing crazily
down a boulder-strewn path in the forest. Back and forth
we went, finding nothing but rocks and trees. We spied a
"local" and asked her if we were on the right
track. "Yes" she said, "But you have to hike
two miles virtually straight up to get to the ruins."
Two miles? UP? Ummm, I don't think so. But thanks anyway.
She
grinned and went on to tell us of several favorite spots
in the area, one of them being a drive up an old logging
road to Evergreen Mountain Lookout. There were wonderful
views, she said, and lots of waterfalls. Logging road? Views?
Waterfalls? Woohoo! That was enough for us and off we went.
